Well, I just saw the two infamous banned episodes of Degrassi. They were
nowhere near as controversial as the Paige/Dean fiasco or the Marco/Dylan
pairing. And if we can deal with episodes involving school shootings in a
post-Columbine America we can certainly deal with Craig playing hide the
sausage with Manny. The whole thing was so politically correct it made me
want to puke.

Looks like Craig and Ashley may be getting back together... ya think Craig
will be a more careful waiter this time and NOT spill the chowder?

Okay, I'll answer your questions in order...

1. Yes, I am from the US.
2. I plead the fifth as to how I got to watch them.
3. Well, you don't actually *see* Paige get raped but you also don't get to
*see* Manny get pregnant.
4. I would like to think that rape is far, far worse a situation than
consensual sex between two people of legal age (and that age in Canada is
actually 14 although from what I gather it's not entirely socially
acceptable).
5. A brief synopsis follows.

Manny starts getting morning sickness. She writes it off as stomach flu
since it's going around the school. Eventually she starts wondering why her
aunt Flo hasn't come to visit and is now 9 days late. First, she asks Paige
how she could tell if a guy uses a condom. That's red flag #1. Paige
provides some of her regular sagelike advice and finally tells Manny that
the ground rules need to be laid before she is. Almost verbatim. (Okay, what
she says is, "Ask questions first, get naked later."). She then goes and
asks Craig if he used anything and his response is, "You said it was okay. I
thought that meant you were on the pill." Okay, so now of course he knows
what's going on although he hasn't been told, per se.

Next, Manny confides in Spike that she thinks she might be pregnant. Spike
gets her a pregnancy test and of course it comes up positive. She goes to
the doctor for confirmation and sure enough....

So since Spike knows, now Emma knows. The next one to get the happy news is
Craig and he takes it really well. He was somewhat prepared already and lets
Manny know that he's going to be there for her and for the baby and
everything is bliss.

Until.....

Emma is babysitting her little brother (Jack?) and she has Craig and Manny
come over to help. The bliss fades rather quickly when Craig doesn't want to
change a poopy diaper and the two of them argue about it while Emma listens
outside on the baby monitor. Then Chris shows up and wants to know what's
going on and Emma says something about how the expectant parents are getting
themselves a crash course. Still, Craig remains supportive and somehow gets
through the diaper change. On a personal note, Craig is (at least at this
point) about the only class in this whole act. I like his character. Too bad
it looks like he's about to inherit daddy's anger mismanagement gene....

Ashley decides to humiliate them the next day by telling everyone within
earshot at lunch that "These two idiots are pregnant." At this point Manny
is starting to feel stigmatized, she is also figuring out that she is just
not ready for the responsibility so she tells her mother who, after
recovering from the shock, arranges the murder of her grandchild....I
mean.... an abortion for Manny. Craig begs her not to do it and tries to
convince her that he'll take care of both of them but Emma (who is also VERY
Pro-Life) actually stands up for Manny and eventually, Craig backs down.
Manny tells him that one day they'll both be good parents but the timing is
all wrong. The episode ends with Manny at the clinic being coached about the
experience. The implication is that she ultimately kills the
bab....er....has the abortion.

Just as well, I say. Can you imagine if those two got married? Her name
would be Manny Manning. It just doesn't work.

Just a little sorta off topic comment about ur post. The legal age
for consentual sex in Canada is 16, not 14. Up until age 15 you can
still call it statuitory (sp) rape if necessary!

I could swear one of your neighbors told me recently it was 14. I THOUGHT it
was right here but I'm on so many message boards and whatnot I don't
remember.

So is that a nationwide law or do the provinces have the right to write
their own laws regarding who can shag who?

As far as i know its a nationwide law. I've actually had discussions
with friends of mine who were saying it was dropped to 14, but it was
actually dropped from 18, to 16. DEFINATLY not 14!!
